Physical Education (Grades 6-9+)

The intellect performs best when the body is healthy and conditioned with physical development as part of maturing into healthy, successful adulthood. Furthermore, sports teaches students to take charge, to display leadership and teamwork. On the one hand, we can respect the University of Chicago for shutting down its football team in the name of academic standards, but The School of Choice knows that athletics is healthy and necessary. Integration of and balance between mind and body is essential to students’ growth and health. On campus or off campus, our physical education curriculum includes sports like soccer, softball, basketball, football, track and field, tennis, swimming and rock climbing.

Located near the Branham Hills Little League playing fields, our school has access to excellent softball fields, playground equipment, full-court basketball, volleyball nets, and hockey, soccer and flag football fields. We offer both individual and team sports and engage in exercises to test basic physical skills (including push-ups, sit-ups and laps around the field). Specialized sports may be offered off-campus, such as rock-climbing, gymnastics, karate or swimming, depending on interest and demand.

In the classroom, P.E. deals with issues such as health and safety, and emotional or social issues related to group behavior. We respect and defer to the moral and religious education parents provide.
