WASC Accreditation Status
In June, 2004, The School of Choice successfully became a Candidate for Accreditation, having been approved by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Members of our administration, teachers, parents and students were fortunate enough to have met with two public high school principals to discuss the school's goals and performance.
WASC is one of six prestigious regional associations that accredits public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. The accreditation process validates the integrity of a school's program and student transcripts, fosters excellence in the ongoing school improvement process, manages change through regular assessment and planning. It is a process that requires that the school clearly define the school's goals and that it take steps to meet these self-chosen goals effectively.
WASC's accreditation board commended the administration and staff for offering:
- Classes or individual instruction is offered in all subjects required by law.
- Providing flexible and individual opportunities for student learning in structured class settings.
- Addressing the needs of the "whole student".
- Accessibility and willingness to dialogue with parents about their student's progress and special needs.
- Continuous opportunities taken to discuss the needs of students in informal meetings.
- Availability and creative use of appropriate facilities to enhance student learning.
Our School readily transfers credits to public and private high schools and to colleges (including the University of California/CSU system).
